Desde Chichen Itza a Cenote y Valladolid

Hey people, I am very sorry i have been really lazy during the last time! But to be honest I had also some stuff to do. University life here is quite different to Austria. We have a lot of homework to do and the University takes a lot of time, as well because the connections via bus are not on the top! Since the University is like 30 minutes away from my place I really rely on the bus. Mondays I am even back at the commercial high school when getting up at 5:45 a.m. and starting classes at 7 a.m.! But it’s ok, since I have every Friday off I have a lot of long weekends :-) So far I have a very good time in Merida! I am just a little bit wondering about how I should write my Bachelor Thesis during this semester! That’s gonna be very tough :-D haha

So but I actually don’t want waste your time with academic stuff, this is not what this blog is supposed to be ;-) Andres, a Mexican friend of us offered me/us, whenever we feel like making a trip at the weekend we just have to let him know and he will join us. I guess he didn’t expect that call so early :-D He probably told me that on a party during the week and I think I called him like two days later (I am not quite sure actually, that’s what happens when you don’t handle your blog appropriate :-P). So we called him for a trip to Chichen Itza one of “The New 7 Wonders of the World” and he just agreed to drive us! Chichen Itza is about one and a half hour away from Mérida. We made the trip on a Saturday, so we wanted to start quite early. On the one hand because of the heat and at the other hand because of the tourists.

When we arrived there I just bought a pretty cool new hat because it was really quite hot and I didn’t want to get a headache caused by the sun! So when you got paid for the entrance you realize that this is a really, really touristic place! Everywhere are Mexicans who provide you their knowledge of a guide (we didn’t take one, we had Andres who could tell us lots of stuff!). As well there were all the ways little stalls (in German: Verkaufsstand) on the left and right side. You even feel that this isn’t a “holy place” anymore. I think you can compare it somehow with a skyline of a big city. Honestly I really expected something more! I did know that it’s a touristic place, but these were no buildings which take your breath away. They were pretty amazing of course and I enjoyed it a lot, but I think the tourism destroyed part of the ancient point of view.

One of the never ending stall "avenue".

Mi primero dia en la Universidad Mayab y un viaje a las buenas cenotes!

So my dear family and friends. Since my course should have started quite early today but didn’t take place I have a little time to write and give you an impression what happened the last days and how my University looks like!

Actually my first impression was like: “What the hell!? If I wouldn’t be a student here I would probably think, that it is some kind of a hotel resort, just the swimming pools are missing”. The university is like in the middle of nowhere, we have to get there by bus or with a car. Since it is actually a University for the upper class more or less all the Mexicans have a car to get here. So I am looking to someone who can give me a lift in every class in order to not pay the bus and to get back home a little faster. Also I would be a little bit more flexible because the busses leave on quite unregularly times. Plus I get in touch with new people :-)

Good parties and dinner times!

So now that I reminded myself (in the post before) what i did the day before, I can post this day / evening as well. Charlotte, a French girl who just moved in at the Casa Crashin and it was her birthday as well. So her roomies decided to throw a party for her! And it was quite a good one. Not just Austrians know how to make some good parties and how to have a nice time! ;-) There were so many nationalities, it was very awesome! People from France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Dutch, Columbia and of course Mexico have been there.

And just now when I see these nations written down, I have to tell you that it is actually quite funny and a little crazy. Because in the first place I didn't ever want to live with germanspeaking people. But now I live with everyone who is studying at the same university as I do. :-D The Casa Crashin is “occupied” by French people. Then there is another place, where all the Dutch people stay. So its actually quite funny, because I guess nobody really wanted to live with people from their country :-D At least we have one French girl living with us and she forces us to speak English all day. In the beginning it was like a little bit awkward, but now it’s actually common and we are very glad to have her with us!

But what I actually wanted to tell you is that we had a great time once again. Well Julien, a French guy jumped from the roof twice – heads first! We told him not to, but he didn’t listen, and the second time he hurt his head. He had to go to the hospital and got eight stiches.. But don’t worry, he was back during the same night and told us what the doctor said: “Don’t worry, that’s gonna be OK, you can go back to the party!” We actually thought, he was joking, but he defended, that the doctor really said it. So we believed him somehow. Well but don’t worry, I will not do that, even if I had a few drinks :-)
By the way, I mixed the pictures with the birthday party of Tomy. I guess you can point out the lucky ones who celebrated their birthday!

We even had a DJ! Quite amazing :-)

Amazing time at the beach in Telchac

A few days passed by and in the meantime I couldn’t really find the time to share another post with you guys. Even now it’s just in between. There are so many things to see and so many people always coming up with some spontaneous ideas! And since they maybe want to read my blog as well I will share my posts now in English :-)

I actually don’t know any more in which order these stories happened. So I just begin with the story which I enjoyed probably the most the last days!

One day we were just hanging out at our place and the cleaning guys were here (yes it’s a very great service! It almost feels like home, when somebody does your laundry and cleans after you). We went to a party the day before, so we were all kind of lazy this day. What actually reminds me, what I did the day before :-D Well, anyway Amélie got an invitation for a trip to the sea and just was in because I had no idea what to do else. And I have never been to the beach this year, so it was actually a great opportunity!

So we went with some friends of Amélie to a place called Telchac – more in the east than Progreso. It took us altogether about an hour to get there, but it was really worth it! It was a kind of a little fishermanvillage. We went to the beach and afterwards we visited a place which should be a restaurant in a few months. But the pool – very important – had already water in it! I know it sounds like a little bit awkward but yes, there is a swimming pool next to the restaurant. So we just cooled down for a bit, because the sea wasn’t really cold plus there was a lot of sea grass swimming in it.

Then just a couple minutes before the sun set, we went to the beach again. And it was amazing, I can’t describe it in words, I will just let you see the pictures. I couldn’t even point out my favourite pictures, it was just awesome!
