So my dear family and friends. Since my course should
have started quite early today but didn’t take place I have a little time to
write and give you an impression what happened the last days and how my University
looks like!
Actually my first impression was like: “What the
hell!? If I wouldn’t be a student here I would probably think, that it is some
kind of a hotel resort, just the swimming pools are missing”. The university is
like in the middle of nowhere, we have to get there by bus or with a car. Since
it is actually a University for the upper class more or less all the Mexicans
have a car to get here. So I am looking to someone who can give me a lift in
every class in order to not pay the bus and to get back home a little faster.
Also I would be a little bit more flexible because the busses leave on quite
unregularly times. Plus I get in touch with new people :-)

The main building! |
On our introduction day at the university we went to
see all the buildings and it was quite chaotic (like most of the Mexican
organizations are). Sometimes there was a guy who translated everything in
English and sometimes not. So we didn’t really get everything, but it was ok
because I am sure I was just like:”Blabla, cool Mexican expression, blabla” ;-)
So I actually met a lot of new people, but there was unfortunately not really
an introduction to ourselves, so we got divided somehow. A lot of the students
just left right after the introduction and just a few stayed and looked for
some new friends. But in the end I hope everybody is making some friends on
Saturday, because there is a big welcome party for all the exchange students!
Then I actually stayed at home for Friday and Saturday
because I needed a break from all the parties, plus I wanted to skype with my
family. Furthermore we had planned a trip to the cenotes which was quite
amazing! Really it was actually the most amazing part since I am in Mérida.
Maybe by the reason that I remembered everything about the trip :-) We drove
for about an hour, also through really poor villages and it was quite
expressive to see how the people there lived. Actually it seemed that they don’t
work at all. A lot of them were just sitting around or driving the motorbikes.

Just a picture i like :-) |

On our way we stopped – of course – at a shop which
sold some beer for the trip to the cenotes. It is really common to have some
beer, if you make a trip, wherever it is. But somehow that’s not really new to
me :-D So when we arrived there we got to our “cabs” which were some mini-trains
pulled by a horse. As you will see, the ride was really an adventure!

The beer shop, i guess it was founded really just by this reason! |

Some part of the way we rode wasn't really well prepared :-) |
The first cenote was not really something special. It
was just a cave you could walk into. At least there was some water, but we didn’t
go swimming there because it was very dark too. The second one was even better!
One more trip with the horse-train and we have been there. At this time we even
had to climb down (or just get down) a letter. There we went for a swim the
first time, but there was not enough space for everybody to go swimming.

So we took another ride on the horse-train – I really
loved that kind of travelling :-) We arrived at the final destination and the
last cenote. And this was really an amazing one! I guess there are probably
places where the cenotes are even more beautiful, but for a first impression it
was just like “wow”! You could really see on the bottom of the cenote, it was
about 10 meters I guess. Plus you could really jump from a platform into it!
That was quite amazing and we all enjoyed our time a lot. Just look at the
pictures and you have some impression of how awesome it was!

Sometimes it wasn't really a curve, it was just like: "Let's go to another direction!" |

The destination where we have been! |
For dinner we went to a restaurant called “Lapa Lapa”.
I thought that I was very hungry, so I ordered a double cheeseburger and I was
quite afraid, that I could not eat it, because it was so much! In the end I couldn’t
really finish it, because I was really too much. We had some food before our
main dishes, so just couldn’t finish it. But it was really, really good! I will
go there again for sure. Not only because the food was so good, as well by the
reason that there is some offer to order chicken wings for one peso and if you
order a beer you will get two :-) I think we will be there again soon :-)

So I hope you enjoyed reading my blog and having a look at the pictures – salud!
